題 目：Computational Psychometrics: Integration of Machine Learning into
Psychometrics and Implications to Big Data

Psychometrics is a discipline within psychology, concerning construction and testing of assessment tools using statistical methods. Over almost a century, psychometric methods ranging from factor analysis to structural equation modelling have been the mainstream for data analyses in applied psychology. Its conventional applications were also extrapolated to other disciplines including health sciences and business studies. The recent availability of big data, mostly of high dimensionality, provides opportunities for researchers across disciplines to gain valuable insights through machine learning methods. With the popularity of computing power and statistical programming languages, the integration of machine learning algorithms into psychometric methods for processing big data, has become less technically challenging than before. It is perhaps, high time to call for a quasi-paradigm shift of the classical psychometric approaches to embrace this big data era. Using his cross-cultural studies, the speaker will introduce a new discipline---computational psychometrics which employs supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods to answer research questions. Both technical and non-technical aspects of this new discipline will be discussed.Keywords: Computational Psychometrics, Machine Learning, Big Data.
